Why should you use multi-factor authentication?
While it’s probably the most popular and common security measure available, the password is often the most vulnerable.
Firstly, passwords don’t provide a strong enough identity check. Anyone who gets their hands on a password can simply access an account and take what they need. What’s more, the account’s security is based entirely on the password’s strength, which – as we all know – usually isn’t high enough. Nobody likes remembering strings containing sequences of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and special characters. Users want something simple, easy to remember and – although they might not realise it – easy to hack.
This is why companies use multi-factor authentication (MFA) to supplement the password as a means of access control – or as a genuine alternative to passwords in some cases.
